Believing with you that religion is a matter which lies solely between man & his god, that he owes account to none other for his faith or his worship, that the legitimate powers of government reach actions only and not opinions, I contemplate with sovereign reverence that act of the whole American people which declared that their legislature should "make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof;" thus building a wall of eternal separation between Church & State. Some walls are best torn down. This is not one of them. The wall of eternal separation between Church & State is one worth Taking the Black for.
NC will conclude voting on Amendment One tomorrow. There is no place for religious discrimination in the law of our state. It is legally and morally wrong. If passed, it will -- eventually -- be repealed. As Dr. King said, "the arc of the moral universe is long but it bends toward justice." Vote against Amendment One to shorten the distance between May 8, 2012 and justice.
