Giving the Middle Finger to "Talent"

We Jam Econo: The Story Of The Minutemen (2005) - Flickchart

There's a bit in the documentary towards the end where Mike Watt is driving around in his van talking about the punk ethos and how he responds when people ask him about pop-punk and how there isn't a real punk scene anymore. He's kind of resigned, he just says something to the effect of "people can't help when they're born, some are born before, some are born after ... you can't blame people for time they're born into." It's an acknowledgement that everybody makes their own way as best they can. It's a little sad that the best people can do in the face of marketing pressures and the need to make a living isn't the absolute best they can do, but he seemed a bit like a punk Buddha as he was talking.
